We might not be able to give you good comics here, but at least we can give you good music recommendations
After a disappointing yield in the 2012 crop, this year was a year of bounty with almost too many good albums to pick from. Almost. While there will be plenty of Best-of lists this year, rest assured this will be the best one you’ll find. Enjoy, and you’re welcome.
Also, this Tumblr theme for webcomics leans slightly towards the fascist side and so it displays images and fonts in a set format. Hence, everything looks a bit wonky. Sorry about that.
TOP 10 2013:
01. SWINGIN UTTERS - POORLY FORMED (Fat Wreck)
Though one can certainly expect a higher standard from the Utters, they truly outdid themselves this year with an album so fresh and unique that it will please both hardcore fans and newcomers to the band.
02. THE BRONX - IV (White Drugs)
After a rather weak third album and a long hiatus, this time the Bronx have a return to form and remind us all why we loved them so much in the first place.
03. RADIOACTIVITY - SELFTITLED (Dirtnap)
We might never get another Marked Men album, so this is as close as we’ll ever get. And, it’s oh-so good.
04. TEGAN AND SARA - HEARTTHROB (Some major label)
Dance albums suck. This is unanimous. So, my hat is off to Tegan and Sara for finally writing a good one. Kudos, girls.
05. KURT VILE - WAKIN ON A PRETTY DAZE (Matador)
Probably the best Kurt Vile has ever sounded in his new style. Also, how in the hell did he write a 60+ minute album that stays interesting throughout?
06. STEVE ADAMYK BAND - THIRD (Dirtnap)
Straight up buzzy pop punk. Nothing else you need to know. Short and sweet and filled with hooks.
07. DEERHUNTER - MONOMANIA (4AD)
Maybe the most lo-fi and garage-y the band has ever sounded. This is the punk album for the indie crowd.
08. SHANNON & THE CLAMS - DREAMS FROM THE RAT HOUSE (Hardly Art)
While most certainly a shtick, Shannon and the Clams somehow still deliver another batch of songs full of personality that will get ingrained in your brain.
09. NEKO CASE - THE WORSE THINGS GET (Anti)
Long pretentious title notwithstanding, The Worse Things Get is comprised of the haunting sound and melodies one has come to expect and love from Neko Case.
10. BILLY BRAGG - TOOTH AND NAIL (Cooking vinyl)
The most lovey-dovey Bragg has ever sounded, Tooth and Nail takes a step back and takes a completely acoustic folk approach to the Bragg-style romance songs. The results just might make you fall in love.
BEST OF THE REST (in no particular order):
THE OBLIVIANS - DESPERATION
